Help YOGYAKARTA

The province of Yogyakarta bore the brunt of a 6.3-magnitude earthquake on 27 May 2006 which killed 5,137 people and left some 1,700 persons injured. More than 13,000 houses are damaged. 200,000 are homeless. (source: http://iys.cidi.org/disaster/ins.06e27/)

The earthquake extensively damaged the local region of Bantul, and its surrounding hinterland. The most significant number of deaths occurred in this region. The Royal Graveyard of Imogiri had extensive damage, and has been closed.

The coincidence of the recent eruption of Gunung Merapi, and the earthquake would not be lost on the older and more superstitious Javanese - as such natural phenonomena are given considerable import within their understanding of the spiritual aspect of such events.

Windows XP: Start Menu and Task Bar Troubled

Yesterday something weird happened to my computer. First I saw my Shut Down button in the Start Menu disappear suddenly, second thing is the Run command in the menu also disappear, I also cannot display the Context Menu by using right-click on the menu. Last thing is that when you right click on the task bar, the Task Manager is disabled.

For instant I thought these problems must be caused by one of two reasons:
1. My system administrator is doing something with the group policy in the domain server.
2. My PC must be infected by some virus or adware or malware or whatever things.

So while trying to figure these out. I am trying to do quick search see if there's any info about this weird things.
1. I found how to get back the Task Manager enabled again. It seems my registry for the Task Bar and Start Menu are changed or corrupted. So if you have same problem you run this registry file by right clicking - save as here, save to your desktop and later you run it from the desktop. After restart your Task Manager should be enabled.

2. I also found how to get back the Run icon command menu, run this registry file by right clicking - save as here, save it to your desktop and run it from your desktop. After restart you will see your run icon should be appear again.

3. How then to get back the Shut Down button just follow the same way with those first two. Right click here, save and run the registry file.

And if you feel you so curious want to know more, and become advance you can refer to this Microsoft Knowledge Base article about these Start Menu Tweaks.

Also you can find many WinXP tweaks here.

Happy Tweaking!

Which Camera Bag Do You Like?

Billingham - PackingtonFor me there're two brands that already well known around photographers over the world: Lowepro and Domke.

Lowepro founder, Greg Lowe, creates the world's first internal-frame backpack in his garage on 1972. Most of the bags now made in China.

Lowepro - CompuTrekker Plus AWLowepro have gone back to the drawing board with their renowned Trekker backpack range; they have been given new weather resistant YKK zips, lighter weight material, very strong and light hypalon (river rafts are made from this) attachment loops and a rubber carrying handle. Lowepro have also included the Trekker daypack previously available as an extra into the bargain. Other changes to theLowepro range include new materials and trim for the Nova and S&F ranges and a new smaller Dryzone backpack.

Since 1976 Jim Domke has been making some of the best and most practical and camera bags available.
They have been the bag of choice for professionals and active photographers alike, offering a combination of protection an access to the cameras inside, without being fussy or trendy. Domke bags are to be found in almost every corner of the world; they are equally at home on city streets, out in the field or at a society gathering. The bags mostly made in United States and the price about twice from Lowepro.

Domke F2 - Original BagOther than these two brands, there're quite number of good bags also from Billingham, The company's transition from a manufacturer of fishing bags to one of camera bags came about in 1978 when Martin Billingham, a keen photographer himself, discovered that the fishing bags he made were being used by New York photographers. So popular were the first models that, within a year, almost all production had switched to camera bags.

Martin Billingham and Co have been making canvas camera bags for over 20 years, and they have become the standard for many users all over the world; they represent the best of British craftsmanship & design; the name that others aspire to. Billingham have had a review of their operations and have made changes to the range, the S3 and Photo Rucksack 25 have been discontinued.

The last one is KATA, Nitzan Kimchi and Dror Tishler, founders and owners of KATA, became acquainted with sophisticated military equipment during their service in an elite combat unit of Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Subsequently, they developed and offered solutions for the special units of the IDF and Israel’s secret services for over a decade. In 1992, in response to an increased demand for their products, and following an extended process of product development, they decided to establish KATA.

First there's an Intel-based Macs, now officially Apple put another flavours to its Macintosh.
Yes, now they can run both OS X or Windows XP (Service Pack 2) Home or Professional Edition.

What you will need:
Boot Camp requires an Intel-based Mac with a USB keyboard and mouse, or a built-in keyboard and TrackPad; Mac OS X version 10.4.6 or later; the latest firmware update; at least 10GB of free space on the startup disk; a blank recordable CD or DVD; and single-disc version of Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later.

Apple's comment:

“Apple has no desire or plan to sell or support Windows, but many customers have expressed their interest to run Windows on Apple’s superior hardware now that we use Intel processors,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “We think Boot Camp makes the Mac even more appealing to Windows users considering making the switch.”

Pricing & Availability

The public beta of Boot Camp is available immediately as a download at www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp, and is preview software licensed for use on a trial basis for a limited time. The final version of Boot Camp will be available as a feature in the upcoming Mac OS X version 10.5 “Leopard.” Apple does not provide support for installing or running Boot Camp and does not sell or support Microsoft Windows software. How Bill Gates's Office Looks Like?

  • He works on virtually paper free. Not much papers on his desk.
  • He still got a whiteboard for brainstorming sessions.
  • He got three flat screen monitors connected to one PC of course.
  • Left screen is for his emails.
  • Center screen mostly to open specific email where he's reading and replying it.
  • And on the right screen is where he open the internet browser.
  • A day he could receive about 100 already filtered emails by his secretary.
  • The whiteboards in some Microsoft offices have the ability to capture an image and send it up to the computer, almost like a huge Tablet PC. He will got this digital whiteboard maybe next year.
  • Oh yah at last he has a tablet pc.

What a great office

  • WordWeb
WordWeb includes a comprehensive English thesaurus and dictionary, and can be used to look up words from within most programs.

  • Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar
The Microsoft Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar provides a variety of tools for quickly creating, understanding, and troubleshooting Web pages.
  • Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
PowerToys add fun and functionality to the Windows experience. More useful to me are the ClearType Tuner, the Open Command Window Here and the Image Resizer but all of them are really cool.
  • LockNote
Steganos LockNote will change the way you work with confidential notes. Application and document in one: the mechanism to encrypt and decrypt a note is part of it. Secure, simple, independent. No installation required.
  • TreeSize Free

  • CCleaner

  • SmartFTP
A free ftp client which features an Explorer-like, customizable interface and supports drag-and-drop functions.
  • Cacheman

Emi Fujita: Rembrandt Sky

Rembrandt Sky AlbumEmi Fujita, is better known as one half of the husband-wife group, Le Couple.

She and her husband, Ryuji Fujita, made their debut in 1994, after being talent-scouted by their producer.

Their most memorable work is the heartwarming theme song of the popular Japanese drama “Under The Same Roof”, aptly titled Hidamari No Uta (Heartwarming Song in Japan). It sold a whopping 1.8 million copies in Japan in 1997.

Google Page Creator

Google announced on Thursday the beta launch of its new Web publishing feature, dubbed Page Creator. A select group of Gmail account holders can now access the tool, to create and publish their own Web pages.
Geared toward the consumer who is slightly less technically-inclined, the Page Creator interface doesn't require software downloads or knowledge of HTML or other programming languages to publish a page.

"It's simply a browser-based tool that makes creating Web pages as easy as creating a document in a word processor," a Google spokesperson told PCMag.

The new feature, which is available at pages.google.com, requires an activated Gmail account as well as Web access via IE 6.0 or Firefox 1.0. Testers can create multiple pages – including related and attached files – which Google says it will store on its own servers.

"There is currently in this beta rollout a limit of one-hundred pages to prevent abuse and spamming," said a Google spokesperson.

New iPod Video on the horizon

ipod.jpgThink Secret can confirm recent rumblings that Apple is nearing completion of a completely revamped video iPod that will shed the ubiquitous mechanical click wheel for a touch screen and will sport a 3.5-inch diagonal display.

This video iPod, which has been in development and on the table since before Apple released the 5G iPod last year with video playback, will feature a display that will occupy the entire front face of the device. Sources who have seen the device report that it features a digital click wheel, one that overlays the touch-sensitive display and appears when a finger touches it and disappears when the finger is removed.

Apple has been working with at least two other companies to perfect the digital click wheel display technology. While not all the engineering was completed in-house by Apple, sources have said Apple could hold an exclusive license on the technologies it borrowed from other developers for a period of time, limiting the ability of competitors to copy Apple's design.

Additional details concerning the new iPod have yet to be confirmed, including capacity and a release date, although all indications point to the Spring, possibly as early as late March or early April. During the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs alluded to a major announcement on or around April 1, Apple's 30th anniversary as a company.

Windows Vista: too confuse to choose?

windows_vista.jpg
We think that be useful to remember about right now, because the consumer confusion the Windows Vista team is about to cause by offering up 8 different platters might be a little much. Here are the product editions Microsoft plans to ship for Windows Vista:

Windows Starter 2007 (Previously Windows Vista Starter Edition). This version does not use the Vista branding because it will not include the Aero graphics display found in the Vista line of products, and will only ship in a 32-bit version.

Windows Vista Home Basic (and Home Basic N). A simple version of Windows Vista that is aimed at single PC homes. Windows Vista Home Basic is the baseline version of Windows Vista, and the version that all other product editions will build from. Home Basic N is aimed at the EU and will lack Windows Media Player.

Windows Vista Home Premium. Whole home entertainment and personal productivity throughout the home and on the go. As a true superset of Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium Edition will include everything from Home Basic, as well as Media Center and Media Center Extender functionality (including Cable Card support).

Windows Vista Business (and Business N) (Previously Windows Vista Professional Edition). Windows Vista Business is roughly analogous to XP Pro today. This version is aimed at business decision makers and IT managers and generalists. Business N is aimed at the EU and will lack Windows Media Player.

Windows Vista Enterprise. Optimized for the enterprise, this version will be a true superset of Windows Vista Pro Edition. It will also include unique features such as Virtual PC, the multi-language user interface (MUI), and the Secure Startup/full volume encryption security technologies ("Cornerstone"). There is no analogous XP version for this product.

Windows Vista Ultimate. The best operating system ever offered for a personal PC, optimized for the individual. Windows Vista Ultimate Edition is a superset of both Vista Home Premium and Vista Business, so it includes all of the features of both of those product versions, plus other features.

Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Launch!

On November 7th, 2005, .NET 2.0 (including ASP.NET 2.0), Visual Studio 2005, and SQL Server 2005 were released to the world, escaping the Beta cocoon they have resided in over the past year and change. Microsoft is rolling out their new platform and software through a Launch Event in several cities around the world. The bits have been downloadable for MSDN Subsribers for over a week now, but are now officially being rolled out and sold to customers.

For those interested in learning more about the new platform and tools without having to drop the money for Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server 2005, and so on, Microsoft is releasing an "Express" product line that has simplified versions of Visual Studio and SQL Server targetted at C#, Visual Basic, or Web Developers. These "Express" versions are free for a year with registration and, while lacking the enterprise-level tools, they do have the basic essentials: IntelliSense and Debugging support.
